Aside from coffee, one of the most common if not delicious beverage one can encounter in Kuala Lumpur is teh tarik. Literally translated as “pulled tea”, it is a hot Indian milk tea beverage which can be usually found in food stalls and restaurants in Malaysia.
Its name is derived from the pouring process of “pulling” the drink during preparation. Made from black tea, condensed milk and evaporated milk, it is considered the national drink of Malaysia.
No well-meaning tourist should leave KL without sampling a sip of their renowned milk tea. Perhaps the easiest way to get to know a country’s people is to taste their food. So order a cup, take a break, and indulge in a beverage that is as rich as its nation’s culture.
